New division for ABX Turners Shipping

By Allan Jackson - April 2008

The end of April saw the launch by ABX Turners Shipping of a specialised Automotive Operations Department.

According to the company's National Operations Director Blain Kondiah, the establishment of the new department brings ABX Turners Shipping in line with the international ABX Logistics Group, which already operates extensively in the automotive field.

Kondiah said that the company had decided to create the new department to satisfy the increasing demand felt from clients in the automotive parts sector. The decision was taken to bring shipping industry stalwart Graham Howard in as National Automotive Manager to head up the new department.

With 18 years in the shipping industry, and the last six specialising in the automotive industry, Howard said that the Automotive Operations Department would be ideally placed to serve clients in its target market, which includes first and second tier suppliers to the OEM manufacturers.

The department is based at the company's Johannesburg offices where it has established operations and service desks to serve as points of contact for its clients. Among the experienced staff available to consult with clients is the experienced shipping operator Peta Tinline.

Howard said that the department would serve clients throughout the country who would reap the benefit of having a highly experienced logistics partner which, as part of the ABX Logistics Group, was represented in over 1000 locations worldwide.

Clients could expect to be offered tailor-made and seamless logistics solutions, including specialist advice on the best packaging to use to ensure shipments were fully protected in transit.

Also as part of the service, clients would be able to take advantage of an Internet-based track and trace system to follow the progress of their shipments and even of systems which would integrate with their existing IT infrastructure.

These systems would be able to monitor the client's stockholding of specific parts and initiate orders automatically when the quantity of the items reached a pre-defined threshold.

Partnering with ABX Turners Shipping would not only free clients up to concentrate on their core business, but the ABX Turners Shipping's expertise and global connections would result in major cost savings for them.

Correct ordering and the timely rapid shipping of components would allow clients to save by implementing just-in-time ordering, allowing them to reduce the amount of capital tied up in stock and, at the same time, to avoid production delays caused by part run-out.
